Dr Suzanne Lyons is incredibly excited to join the Yorkville area as one of the partners in Kahu Animal Hospital. Suzy grew up in Toronto and is passionate about connecting with the pets and Kahus in her community. She has been providing veterinary care to cats and dogs within the city for over 20 years.
Becoming a veterinarian was Dr. Lyons’ dream for as long as she can remember. She earned an Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph and went on to graduate with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College. With her strong background in science and a love for all animals, her lifelong dream of working as a veterinarian is as fulfilling and inspiring as she had always hoped.
She is dedicated to the well-being of her patients and enjoys working together with their Kahus to provide compassionate and informative veterinary care. Dr Lyons began her career at the east end of Toronto, working together with Dr. Dilworth in the Beaches. After a year, she moved to the west end of the city, which eventually led her to become a practice owner. She has been a foundational pillar in building a practice that believes in outreach that serves the West End community. From visiting schools to talk about animal care and careers in veterinary medicine, participating in many community charity events benefiting humans and animals alike, to fairs and festivals, and welcoming co-op students and volunteers, she is always excited to educate, inspire, and share her passions.
Dr. Lyons believes in keeping current and loves to learn and stay on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. She is a Fear Free Certified Practitioner who strives to make her patients feel as calm and comfortable as possible while in her care. She enjoys combining travel and education, learning about animal behaviour in Africa and emergency medicine in Alaska. Continued growth as a veterinarian and as a human is one of her values, and she loves supporting her team in doing the same. She was featured in an article by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association about work-life balance, and she looks forward to exploring further where creating a new practice will take her.
When not working, Suzy enjoys spending time with her husband, Neil, and being Kahu to her teenage humans, Ethan and Alexandra, as well as rescue dogs, Louie and Mickey. She loves to travel anywhere warm with an ocean to explore and is always up for an adventure. Suzy looks forward to connecting with you and those you are Kahu to, and is excited to delve into the possibilities that come with both a new community space in the city she loves, and the opportunity to create a clinic built on providing compassionate, accessible care of the highest quality.
